A website helps companies to communicate with their target groups. It is informative, visually appealing and loads within a few seconds - ideally. However, due to the fact that a website today can contain many images, videos, scripts and more, it is quite possible that the time until the content is visible takes much longer than desired. This is not only annoying for visitors, but can also lead to them leaving the site before the content has been fully rendered. This is why Google penalizes slow websites in the SEO ranking.
In common parlance, the loading speed is the time it takes for a website to be displayed in the browser after entering a URL or clicking on a link. In addition to the term "page load speed", the term "loading time" or "page speed" is also used. However, all terms have the same meaning.
Since April 2010, the page load speed of a website has officially been a ranking factor for Google. Although it is not known exactly how much weight page load time has on the overall ranking for Google, Bing or Yahoo, we believe that performance and page load time should be as fast as possible. Especially in a competitive environment, a high-performance website can be the decisive advantage for a better search result.
Page load time is extremely important, especially in the mobile environment, because poor network coverage or shielding by rooms can cause the bandwidth of a smartphone to collapse. Unfortunately, LTE is still not available everywhere in Germany, and many consumers do not have the necessary contract to enjoy fast mobile Internet.
The basic principle for a fast website is:
"As little as possible, as much as necessary".
What does that mean?
The more data with many kilobytes or even megabytes that have to be loaded, the more requests are made to the server at the same time, the slower the page load will be. Our credo is therefore to reduce this request load (request and data size) to such an extent that the content of the page is quickly visible.
Keyword power-to-weight ratio. Let's compare a DTM racing car with a luxury limousine in terms of performance and weight. A DTM racing car has around 500 hp and weighs approx. 1,200 kg. A luxury limousine also has roughly the same performance, but can weigh twice as much. It is therefore understandable that the lighter of the two has an advantage with the same performance. This is also the case with the Internetsete.
TYPO3 is a very comprehensive and widely used CMS for medium-sized companies, which covers many requirements for modern web portals. It can be optimized very well in terms of page load time, as a high-performance server is required to operate a website on this basis, and there are numerous extensions and internal options for increasing page speed. We can help you to get the most out of your TYPO3 CMS.
Basically, the demands on web servers are higher when dynamic content has to be generated, as is the case with TYPO3. While static HTML pages are already ready to be interpreted by the browser, with many CMSs the content only has to be generated dynamically on request. This dynamic requires more powerful web hosting packages. There is an extension for TYPO3 that is able to generate static pages from dynamic ones. However, this is not useful for every application.

If you use the Contao CMS for your website, you have not only chosen a very good content management system, but usually also very good prerequisites for a fast website. We can help you to make your Contao site load even faster.
There are various ways to optimize the speed of Contao. In our experience, most Contao users have a shared hosting environment, so we will not go into high-performance tools such as load balancers or content delivery networks (CDN) here. Although these tools can help to optimize the speed, they would be a bit too big for common websites with normal traffic and a normal load on the web server.
Contao has fully supported PHP7 since version 3.5.5 and can therefore increase speed with the same initial configuration. As with any website, not only the system configuration but also the server configuration is important. Since Contao 3.4 it is possible to automatically generate images via the system in exactly the size in which they will later be displayed. The images should always be delivered in the size in which they are displayed. An image that is actually 300×300 pixels in size but is only displayed in 100×100 pixels costs more traffic and burdens the browser to unnecessarily calculate the image size.
Another way to speed up Contao is to use lazy loading. This means that images are only loaded when they come into the visible area (above the fold). This means that all graphics that are below the visible area, to which you would have to scroll first, are replaced with a 1x1 pixel small graphic as a placeholder and only loaded when necessary. For large pages with many images, such as galleries, this can save a lot of loading time.

Of course, we also offer our performance optimization service for owners of WordPress sites. This content management system also offers great potential for delivering pages faster.
Trust is good, control is better. Customer transparency is important to us, which is why it is important for us to inform you about the performance status of the site before and after optimization. Among other things, we use the Google Pagespeed tool for this purpose. This provides many clues as to where technical measures need to be taken to improve the loading time of websites.
There is now even an improved version of Pagespeed. Although this uses Google's API, it allows several pages to be evaluated at once. Click here for the bulk pagespeed test.
PageSpeed refers to the loading speed of a website. It is important because fast loading times lead to a better user experience, reduce bounce rates, and improve SEO rankings on search engines like Google.
Measures to improve page speed include optimizing images, reducing server requests, using caching techniques, utilizing Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), and minimizing CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.
Mobile page speed optimization is particularly important because many users access websites via mobile devices. Poor network coverage and slow mobile connections can increase load times, leading to a higher bounce rate and a negative user experience. Google also considers mobile load speed as a ranking factor.
